Here are 6 things going on in my garden this week.

    ONE

    Hardy geraniums

Hardy geraniums from Margery Fish Plant Nursery

I bought loads of hardy geraniums at the famous Margery Fish Nursery at East Lambrook Manor Gardens in Somerset last weekend – my favourite garden ever.  Will be planting them on top of tulips in pots in November sometime.

    TWO

Six on Saturday in a London Cottage Garden

    Leaves collected from the street

Piles of leaves I have collected from surrounding streets and carried back to my lair.  As they rot down I add them to my compost bins. Fantastic stuff.

    THREE

    Ferns and grasses in containers

    Ferns and grasses

Planted up my yellow pots after advice from Harriet Rycroft of My Garden School. Bought the grasses she suggested from Knoll Gardens and here they are, Anemanthele lessoniana, Uncinia  rubra and Imperata cylindrica Rubra mixed in with ferns.  I’ll add small daffs when they arrive from Crocus.

    FOUR

Wet leaves from the apple tree

Wet leaves from the apple tree

Leaves again – look at these lovely ones just lying around waiting for me to gather them up.  A person can get very excited about wet leaves – honestly it is quite weird.

    FIVE

    Acer palmatum

Acer in a pot so that I can move it around out of the wind

An Acer Palmatum Sango-Katu, or could be Orange Dream, not sure which,  from Norfield Nurseries. It’s doing quite well in a 3L pot and just hanging onto its leaves.

    SIX

Autumn colours in a London cottage garden

Colours in the bricks same as autumn colours of the grass in the pot

The yellows and pinks in the bricks are matching the shades in the grass, hakonechloa macra “Aureola”  turning into its autumn colours.

Thankyou to The Propagator for hosting this theme and you can see other people’s Six there.

I share your enthusiasm for leaf litter. Glorious stuff isn’t it?

The Margery Fish garden is on my list of paces to visit, & has been for ages… thanks for the reminder!
Love how you collect leaves & take them home, but then leaf mould is marvellous for the garden.

Thanks for getting in touch. East Lambrook is closed now for the winter from October 31st but I’m sure it looks even lovelier in the Spring. Hestercombe was also lovely. Tintinhull was ok but the visit only needed 15/20 minutes there whereas one could stay at the other two for a whole afternoon.

Hi Julie, I have a few kids who would be over the moon if I told them we were going out collecting leaves. Right now we have collections of stones and old conkers. Also love the Acer – nice and bright. Keep the pics coming.

They would probably also love my compost bins crawling with litttle creatures and millions of wood lice and worms. Hope you have a heap yourself. thanks so much for your comment – always lovely to hear from people. Julie
