A glorious splash of colour through April and May
Six photographs from Spring last year to get us in the mood for bulb planting this autumn:-

The first burst of colour comes from the early narcissi. Some are in the borders permanently and some I put in pots. When they are over I lift them and tuck them in the border to die down and put down roots for the next year.

Then come some early species tulips, tiny delicate things flowering in April and onwards.

All my main season tulips are orange/red/peach and in between.

These are probably Orange Princess or Princes Irene
Later in the season in May come the parrot tulips. These look like Rococo or could be Doorman’s Record.

Purple Sensation alliums
In May the alliums come along. My favourites are Purple Sensation and Christophii. I need to plant two dozen or so to get a good display.
I certainly don’t wish time to hurry through winter to get to spring but what I do love about gardening is that we are always thinking ahead. In October I will be thinking of daffodils and in November/December I’ll be thinking about tulips.
